I took the boys to the Children's Museum today and both Will and Soren agreed that they are getting too old for this kind of stuff. They proclaimed that it is boring and childish. Later when I told Will that I'll just have to take Jasper by myself next time he admitted that he wouldn't mind going but he'd just play with his brother, watch him do things and he MIGHT find a few things of interest. When he has a friend over though he'd like to have us do something more exciting and challenging though.
I also lost Jasper for a bit of time today too. That was definitely a first and my heart picked up an extra beat as the minutes went by and I had no idea where he was. We were on a very tall tower with a huge curly slide. I felt that I needed to climb the tower with Jasper (actually, I raced after him) but honestly my hips wouldn't go down the slide! I'm being serious! These slides were made for children, to be sure! They were enclosed tubes so not only could I not clear it in height, by my bottom just couldn't fit into the opening! So Jasper went down on his own, left me at the top and then I had to find my way back down. By the time I got down there he was gone. I watched and waited at first, thinking that he couldn't have gone far. Finally I scouted out the boys and asked them to help me look for him. Sure enough we eventually found him. He had climbed a tall ladder on his own and was up inside some tunnels just walking around like he was king of the hill. This guy... he's just too fast!
I wish I could video how funny it is to see us walking around. Jasper runs so fast. The minute you set him down he is off like a flash, running. He often says, "Go!" and then he takes off like it is a race. When we are out and people are nearby they always laugh. If you are a casual citizen walking down the sidewalk, Jasper just keeps on truckin' right by and often you need to leap out of the way. If he isn't running, then he is climbing or balancing. He also loves to leap off of things yelling, "Yabba dabba doo!!"
So you can imagine my fear when he was out of my sight. I could imagine that he was either running so far away in some undetermined direction or else he was deciding to leap off of something. I could see another mother bystander and feel her eyes wondering to herself, "Where is this guy's mother?" After all this time with my little Speedy Gonzales, it was the first time I felt a bit worried.

Oh, that really is one of the most horrid feelings in the world. And when you have a child with an adventurous spirit, you want to honor that... but dang! Sometimes it's scary, and you wish they'd just hold your hand for a bit longer. :)
