Perfect Sky

Our sky has changed to the most perfect blue this week and I daresay that spring is upon us! Here we are with buddies Samantha and Charlie at the beach!

Guitar Recital 2012

Silence is Warning

The other morning I was heading downstairs and left Jasper in the living room. I heard his feet pattering after me briefly, then silence. I wondered after moments passed without word or sight of him: where is he and what is he doing? Since this is our second child, we are well versed in what silence means. Sure enough, here he is with Dad's steaming cup of coffee and a coveted keyboard!

Annual Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza

We had fun chuckling to ourselves this year at our drizzly 37 degree egg hunt. The idyllic image of children running baskets in hand through dry grass with their tulle dresses and sparkling shoes with warm sunshine peeking through the trees was wiped away entirely as instead we all slogged through soggy grass wearing rain boots, mittens, and warmed up with mimosas in reusable cups (for adults) and crock pot fare (plugged into the car!).

Releasing the Fry

Will and his friend Owen spent the evening at the creek watching the salmon make their way to the Sound. We have a whole new batch of 33,000 fry to care for in the next round this week!

Bedtime Reading

Jasper mimics his brother every move so it shouldn't surprise us that there is a moment of quiet reading before bed and oh, it is nice!

Beach Bums

We are already looking forward to the warmth of summer. Though it has been a gloriously mild fall and winter, these last few weeks as we transition into spring go so slowly. But we did have a warm day recently so we met a friend at the beach.

Monkey Man

For whatever reason Will pulled out all the Halloween costumes last night and dressed Jasper up. This gave me pause though because Will wore this costume when he was 4 I believe... I'm thinking that his brother is perhaps a bit bigger than he was!

Soccer Class

Jasper is absolutely in love with balls. As I watch other boys in our midst I realize now that he is perhaps more typical than his brother in that regard. But "ball" is his loudest word and when he wakes up from his nap it is often his first word as he opens up his hand to show me the shiny marble that he slept with or to point out the ball that he'd like to play with RIGHT.NOW.

So of course I couldn't pass up a chance to try out the Lil' Kickers class. This is a whole new world to me, the world of balls. I could not believe how many other parents were assembled there for the little soccer class. There were dozens of boys and girls all running around the soccer field wearing their little athletic shoes and soccer jerseys. While I was doing sing along music classes with Will and quiet trips to the petting zoo or attending storytimes... there was a whole other scene going on at the ball field: the world of sports! And we are making our foray into it RIGHT.NOW.

Jasper at first was terrified of the class, clinging to me, wouldn't look at the male coach, touch the ball, even let his feet brush the astroturf. But he warmed up relatively quickly and within no time at all he was jumping the barrier and dribbling across the field, making goal after goal and yelling, "Yeah!" for himself. We made towers out of cones and kicked them down. As many of the other parents took note,"He has a strong kick!" and "He looks like he is just getting warmed up and my kid is all done!"

When soccer class was over I had to actually chase him down and carry him off the field while he told me sternly, "No no no, more ball!"
