Night Before Christmas

Last day for the advent calendar unveils a chocolate nutcracker-- quite a treasure!

These are a little out of order but show the spritz cookies we made this afternoon (he chose to give fifteen exactly to Santa) and the letter he wrote to Santa:

Dejavu

Our ultrasound was quite a dejavu experience from last time. In this shot you see the baby with his hand in the air and foot up tickling his nose. His mouth is opening and closing drinking up the amniotic fluid. He was VERY active during the u/s but if these ultrasound images are anything like last time-- looks exactly like Will.

I'll try to post an image of the part where he spreads his legs and shows, just like last time, an unmistakable penis.

Peace on Earth Begins with Birth

This was a rather comical belly painting experience. I put the template on but couldn't see to paint so Will and Paul "helped". Our first photos showed that the earth was not actually round so Paul had to touch it up which created the floating Antarctica situation and a few other things that upon close scrutiny would make this look more like a blue and green mishmash rather than the earth. But you get the idea!

Will sure has had some interesting conversations with his friends at school. Lately Paul and I are a mixture of amusement, shock, and fear about some of this....

Will says that his friend told him that pencils that say MADE IN THE USA are actually made in the USA but if they don't say that then that means they were made by God.

People put nails in Gods hands and feet which made him die but his heart still lives. All of this happened in Mexico and this is where God is now.

If and when you die you will be with God (in Mexico?!).

His friend can apparently cut off someone's leg easily with a knife. That person would die then but he/she would be with God.

His friend can also apparently stop someone's brain by hitting him on the head very hard. I'm sure you can see where this is going.... he/she would be with God.

These conversations appear to flip back and forth between John McCain, God, and Santa Claus but Will also informs us that he's been told Santa is coming soon but he will not bring any presents to people who are "bad". You only get presents/everything you wish for if you are good. Will thought for a minute or two with that to wonder if he was good enough to get any presents. He did say though that a thief would have to go to jail and he/she would not get any presents from Santa.

Some of our responses to this have been to talk about how there are a lot of things that people read about in books and they believe strongly in. Paul, in particular, has shared with Will about the five major religions of the world and each of those "gods". His tack has been more along the lines of these things only exist in books.

My angle with Will has been more about how it can be fun to believe in these things that we read about in books. He and his friends can believe what they want to believe I told him today that I think it is fun to believe that Santa will come to my house and deliver presents to my Christmas tree. Will agreed that he likes to believe in Santa too. Then I said that it sounds like in his friends family they have their beliefs too but in our family we don't believe that only "good" people get presents. In our family, everyone gets a present. Will agreed with that too and added that as long as you have your name on it, then the present is for you.

We haven't approached the pencil or Mexico questions yet... I'm still wrapping my head around these ones!

Boy or Girl

Will is starting to be very excited about our ultrasound coming up next month. He really is curious if the baby is going to be a boy or a girl and his name suggestions change from day to day. His latest ideas are to name a boy "Little Will" and a girl "Menyea" (pronounced menyay) after a girl in his school. I think the name is African but I'll have to check on that.

Oh My God

Yeah, literally!

We haven't told Will about God. I guess I just figured that the whole concept was pretty abstract for him. We haven't talked about things like the Civil War or Gengis Khan either figuring that historical figures would be something that comes later in elementary school. I think our logic breaks down a little bit in that he knows a lot about politics and current politicall figures but then again this is happening in our lives right now and he can see it and experience these things so we explain them to him. But God, well, no, we haven't gone there yet.

So imagine our surprise when Will was zooming his tiny plane around in the air and he said, "This plane is going so fast no one can even see it except for God." Paul said, "God?" Will said, "Yeah, do you know about God?" Paul asked him to explain and he told Paul that God is in the sun and he sees and knows everything. Paul asked him how he knows this and he said, "My friend Jaxon told me about him. Jaxon is six and he knows everything."

15 Weeks

Happy Halloween!

Policeman Will had a Halloween Cookie Decorating Party at his friend Sophia's house this afternoon and then he went trick or treating with some of the neighborhood kids. Downtown Fremont created a Great Pumpkin aglow on top of one of the buildings which we enjoyed and we rented a video (shocker!) and watched together Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin Adventure.

Ever since our car was broken into, Will has just loved the police. There were two police officers who came to our house for the report and "evidence" and they made quite an impression! Since that time Will and Paul have seen them around town and they pull over everytime to say, "Hello."
