Ballard Locks

Today we went to an outdoor play with Theatre Simple at the Ballard Locks and then we looked at the salmon in the height of the ladder season.

George's Birthday Party

Wallingford Farmer's Market

Every Wednesday we visit the market near our favorite park and wading pool. Will loves that the Flying Apron Bakery (gluten free, vegan, alternatively sweetened baked goods) is there and he buys himself a cookie. I love the tamales and grilled veggies myself!

Keenan

I have to title this for his buddy who he has spent nearly all week with. They are in soccer camp together and then we've been doing all kinds of activities together in the afternoon. Most days we play with the blow-up crocodile in the wading pool but there is also ample tree climbing, stick and leaf gathering, "fishing" with sticks in Greenlake, making tree forts, blueberry picking, and beach excursions. To summarize, he has had a blast with Keenan.

Swimming and Sliding

This is my last official week of summer vacation although I'll live vicariously through Paul and Will on their two week vacation.

I wanted to take note of some more milestones though. It seems that just after his fourth birthday Will made a huge leap in the pool (literally). He started to willingly, gleefully jump off the side of the pool, dive for objects, go down the slides, etc. He will swim the length of the pool without taking a breath (because he doesn't yet know how to side breathe) and asks us to not catch him or give him any kind of flotation. It is really amazing to finally see his swimming skills come together. Up to this point he would do what was asked of him in swim class but he didn't seem to truly enjoy it like he does now.

Paul is going to try to get a photo of him going down the slide on his belly. He looks hilarious as he speeds down the slide with his blue goggles on and then plops into the wake at the end.

In Will's words, "I can do a lot of things now that I'm four." He has also been showing more humor and sarcasm that is so startling at times because I don't think of him as mature enough for it. I'll try to write down his jokes as he makes them. Right now the only thing I can remember is that tonight he told me that when he is fully grown he will eat special treats EVERYDAY!

Boulder Falls

Carkeek

We met Keenan and Nauko today at the beach near our house. I can't believe I go back to work in less than two weeks. Summer has flown by in a whirlwind of activities.

Hairwashing

We just wanted to take note that it has taken almost exactly four years for Will to learn how to wash his hair on his own from wetting, soaping, to rinsing without any help at all. The real key was to teach him how to lay on his back "like a turtle" in the bathtub.

Helms Alee!

Four Year Old

Happy 4th Birthday, Will!

Will celebrated his fourth with a tie dye party! We had a melding of friends from school and two different neighborhood mom's (and dad's) groups. We played at the park, dyed our pre-tied shirts, sung, and ate vegan spelt banana cake from PCC.
