Future Democrat?

Will has been talking about casting his vote lately. He loves to say Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Bowling

Will and his good buddy Cole went bowling last night. I never realized that this would be appropriate for a couple of three year olds but sure enough they do rent velcro bowling shoes for kids (starting at size 8) and when it is their turn they put up the bumpers so that the balls will never go in the gutter.

Will's first few tries looked more like shotput throws but then he started to get the idea and would roll it on the floor between his legs and then watch as it ambled ever so slowly down the lane towards the pins.

Surprisingly, he scored better than Paul for most of the game!

Here are the boys together. That second shot is hysterical because they are trying to put their arms around each other for the photo but just don't have it exactly right!

Number Cookies

Will made himself some number cookies this afternoon.

Screen Time

For a number of reasons Montessori educators frown upon television for children, particularly for children under six years old. To that end we haven't introduced the television to Will and our television is shrouded in a cabinet downstairs that he hasn't taken an interest in.

His teacher told me today that they were doing some cards together and one of the pictures had a television. Will was just confidently naming these objects with his peers... table, desk, couch.... until they came to the picture of the television and he was silent. Candace suspected that he might say computer or something since he has seen us with our laptops around the house. He didn't say anything though and the other kids offered up, "television."

I'm sure one of these days he will add TV to his word bank but for now it is just amazing that he has no idea what it is! It isn't that he has NEVER ever seen one either because I think his grandparents have watched TV around him but he just hasn't had enough meaningful and frequent experiences with it that it has become a part of his vocabulary. How interesting.

Willisms

I keep forgetting to take note:

1. We had a discussion the other night about "boogers" and "mucous". Since we don't say the former it is likely he picked this up on the playground. I told him that we use the word "mucous" in our house and he informed me that "mucous" and "boogers" are two different things.

2. He often says things like, "I can't believe that." "I could have sworn...." "That is risky." "Perhaps..."

3. When we tell him about something that we won't let him do or that won't work and he wishes otherwise he'll say, "Don't say that to me." "Stop saying that."

4. Recently there were some problems with a room full of boys in one of the naprooms so they were telling Will that he might have to switch naprooms if he doesn't take a nap more easily. Now he banishes his animal replicas and his dad to the "dark naproom with Lisa".

5. His fluency is still funny and reminds me of learning other languages. He'll still use words creatively to get across an idea. For example, when things don't work sometimes they are "sleeping".

6. Just lately I hear him talking about "good guys" and "bad guys". Likely this is from school. He also mentioned to Paul tonight that he is scared that a bad guy will come out of his closet. This is just shocking to us. Where he got this idea, we can't figure.

Performing Pigs

Will and Paul watched performing pigs this morning at our community center. Pretty wild!
