Trick or Treat

Tonight Will had his first neighborhood trick or treat. He definitely got the idea although the message degenerated pretty quickly from, "Trick or Treat" to "I want some candy." We also had to talk about staying on the doorstep. Since we went around our neighborhood, some of our neighbors just invited Will inside which led him to believe that he should just waltz right into everyone's house!

We talked with him beforehand about how we can trade in his treats for something and he offered up the idea of a ride on the Snoqualmie Railroad. His trick or treating friend Lane decided to trade in her treats for ballet tickets. Then towards the end of the evening at the very last house I heard Will say under his breath, "I think I'm going to eat some of this candy." as he put a lollipop into his mouth wrapper and all. He sucked on it for awhile and then we reminded him about trading for a train ride. Thankfully, sucking on the lollipop wrapper was not nearly so delicious as the train ride!

The thing that is so hysterical about Will-- and likely this is the age-- is that he is so transparent. He says things under his breath which are his true inner thoughts and he voices his observations in such raw truth that it just cracks me up.

Swimming

Will is wearing this swim diaper only because the pool requires it for all kids under four years old. Thankfully he doesn't discriminate!

Halloween Party

This weekend was the annual Halloween Party and birthday bash for Amelia. Will was looking forward to wearing his monkey costume. We had to laugh though when we arrived at the party and there were two other monkeys in attendance!
Some of his other friends were there too... Soren and George were pirates, Gideon was a monkey, Chloe was a skeleton, Finn was a firefighter, Daley was a dragonfly, Jack was a chicken, Greta was a kangaroo, Amelia was a pig, Devan and Aoife were princess/fairies, Keenan was a dinosaur, Aniela was a black cat, and Justin was a pumpkin.

Thomasson Family Farm

Will's school met at the farm today for animal petting, tractor rides and pumpkin hunting. Since it was raining the farm was rather quiet but what a fun place! They had a huge pit of feed corn to jump in, baby rabbits, pigs, goats, cows and even a donkey. They also created a hay maze inside another barn with a long shiny waxed slide and tunnel. There were John Deere tractor trikes to ride around in a hay corral and an old hot tub was turned into a sandbox with-- you guessed it-- John Deere tractor bulldozers to play with. One of Will's new friends from his class was there and they were able to take a ride on the coolest tractor train you ever did see!

Afterwards, we went out for lunch with a couple of the teachers. The diner we chose in farm country was pretty authentic with every single bit of wallspace covered with some kind of kitschy knickknack. Paul almost died when his "veggie" sandwich arrived with white sandwich bread and Velveeta cheese! Candace and Jennifer ordered biscuits and gravy and omelettes complete with hot cocoa topped with mountains of Reddi Whip.

Kittens Revisited

I bumped into the family that adopted our kittens today and they told me that everything is going very well. Jasmine is now named "Peru" and Marmalade is now "Leo". They are just as loving as ever and they are growing up to be very big and very pretty cats.

Playdate with Jasmine

Today Will had his former classmate Jasmine over to play. She's never been to our house before so when we pulled up to the house I said, "Will, show Jasmine where you live." I said this because I parked a bit down the hill and we had to walk to our house. I meant for Will to just show her where our house is up the hill. But when we got inside Will called out, "C'mon Jasmine, let me show you where I live!" He brought her to our big United States map and he said, "Now here is the United States and here is Washington State. See this little tiny dot here? Well, this is where I live in Seattle. Where do you live?" Jasmine thought for a minute and said, "I live at my house."

They also had a couple of other funny discussions. Jasmine asked if Will had juice at his house. Will said that he did not have juice, only milk or water. Later she spied my iced tea in the fridge and said excitedly, "Will, look, you have juice!" He said, "No, that is just my mom's iced tea." Even now, days after Jasmine's visit, Will keeps telling me that we need to get some juice for Jasmine because she really likes to have juice to drink.

I was also laughing a bit at their "stories". They each brought a book in the car to read to themselves while I was driving. This was their idea. I could overhear them both make up the stories that go along with the book. Jasmine, who has two older sisters, had a story that went like this, "Okay mom, we'll stop fighting..." Will's story went like this, "And then the daddy..."

Their main activities today were making pancakes out of clay, brushing hair and putting in hair accessories at the mirror, playing with the cat (who Jasmine very confidently tells us is a girl), and making a puzzle on the floor.

Working together on clay.

Having a snack... spreading jam and almond butter on heart shaped bread.

Wiping off their table after snack. Will was drying and Jasmine was wiping with a sponge.

Underwear

Today Will came home wearing two pairs of underwear. One that was his and another that was two sizes too big with yellow dump trucks adorned. Hmmm..... we asked him where these underwear came from and he told us they were his. He doesn't have dump truck underwear but apparently someone in his class does! At this point I'm not sure we'll ever get the real explanation behind all this but what we've gathered is that he might have changed into these underwear while he was out in the hallway putting away his lunch or getting ready to go out into the garden.
